How Artificial Intelligence (AI) Is Driving the Future of Visualization

I’ve been launching visualizer tools for over eight years, and if there is one word to summarize the process, it’s “continuous improvement.” ok, so that’s two words.

Your vision is typically bigger than the technology. Which is a good thing. We should always be thinking 3-5 years out and building towards the future. But don’t wait to get “the perfect tool.” It’s important to Start Building Something now…gather data and continuously improve.

When I launched the first augmented reality (AR) app in the building products industry back in 2013, we had to have “markers” (fancy QR codes) for everything. I knew that markerless technology was a few years away, and I was ok with that. I wasn’t going to wait. I would launch now and continuously improve as the technology improved.

The most exciting innovation in visualization is the use of artificial intelligence (AI). It’s mind boggling what is happening when AI is used to enhance the visualization process. It creates a dramatically better user experience and one that is faster and more automated. The faster you can get your customers visualizing your product on their homes, the more confidence and excitement you create.

Let’s take a look at a few incredible innovations happening with artificial intelligence in visualization.

Renoworks Automasking Technology

Visualizers can often times be time consuming. Whether you are building a deck, designing a paver patio or putting siding on a home, it requires time to outline and draw out your project.

Renoworks is changing that by using AI to help speed up the process. Rather than having users manually outline each surface and cut out thew windows, the Renoworks visualizer tool can now recognize different surfaces and automatically cut out the windows and doors.

I was a client of Renoworks and one of the first to implement this new Automasking Technology. Depending on the home you upload, you could have 90+% automatically masked. As I was testing, I was able to get product on a home in less than 5 minutes. Typically it would take over 20 minutes. It’s an incredible experience for the user.

It’s not perfect, but it will continually improve. I’m excited for what the future of AI and automation holds for visualizers. You can check out this Automasking technology on the Tando Visualizer and Menard’s Visualizer.

Hover’s Automatic House Modeling Technology

Hover is using AI to take photos of your home and turn them into 3D models that can give exact measurements and visualized with different products. I’ve written about Hover before and the amazing technology they have developed.

I truly believe this is the future of visualization. Every homeowner will have the ability to create a 3D model of their home that can be customized for future home improvement projects.

I recently came across another unique example in the use of artificial intelligence. Paradigm, a visualizer software company has launch Paradigm Estimate. Paradigm Estimate construction takeoff technology automatically examines blueprints and generates a detailed material takeoff list.

This is just the beginning of AI powered visualization, and I can’t wait to see how our experiences change over the years.

If you have any other great examples of Artificial Intelligence (AI) being used in visualizers, please let us know. We would love to hear about it!
